Wedding Dress Trends
Fashion forward
brides want to know what's hot off the runway when shopping for
wedding dresses. We asked internationally recongized wedding expert,
Linda Kevich, to fill us in on the hottest looks in bridal fashion
this year:
"The overall
look in bridal gowns this year is sexy and ultra-feminine. The
predominant sihouettes are sleek and sophisticated trumpet skirts or
fluidity and flowing romance. So there's something to match
everyone's taste and style.
Strapless remains
very hot, and in addition, we're seeing firtatious off-the-shoulder
straps that look like they've just casually slipped forward.
It's all in the
accents right now - big bows and bustles, at the back; corsages at
the front.
There's tons of
tulle this year, but done more tastefully than ever before.
And for the first
time ever, we're seeing pockets on some gowns, which may sound
strange but the designers have done it with style and sophistication.
Skirts feature
layered tiers for a skirt-upon-skirt look.
Ruffles are making
their way back into skirt styles, and we're seeing ruffled tiers too.
Lace is the look
this year. Watch for lace detailing at the hem, on the bodice, or at
the waist. As well, gorgeous lace overlays provide tons of texture.
Underlays of pale hints of color showing through white lace are an option.
Bursts of color,
especially in bold jewel tones, for accent on a white gown are still
going strong and one of the hottest ways to achieve this is at the
waistline, because...
As far as a focal
point goes, it's all at the waist this season. Think saphire sash or
any other color for contrast. Nipped in waists, sometimes accented
with wide belts are also trendy.
Short dresses with
hemline flounces and back bustles offer fun.
Silver wedding
dresses, sequins, and jewel tones are back in style! If you love rich
purples, bright greens, and shocking pinks, you'll be excited by 2008
wedding trends. But use jewel tones sparingly, mixing them with muted
versions of the same color, or white or ivory. Steer away from satin
jewel tone bridesmaid dresses because no one will ever wear them
again. Instead, choose chiffon or other matte fabrics when pairing
with bold colors.
Trumpet skirts are
a hot silhouette. They sleekly hug the body and then flare out just
above the knee. For the slender bride, the trumpet skirt shows off
the figure often better than almost any other style.
Flowing pastel
princess-like ballgowns are still growing strong for the ultra
feminine bride with a flair for romance.
And, believe it or
not, the bubbke skirt is coiming back!
Special thanks
to wedding expert Linda Kevich for sharing her insights for this report.
